If you are thinking about connecting to the #txlchat Twitter chat on Tuesday nights, but don’t know what to do, have no fear! Hop in and give it a try. You don’t even have to have a Twitter account to lurk. Of course, we prefer active participants. These directions may be a little different for a mobile device, but these are the basics.
Lurker level. Go to http://www.twitter.com/#txlchat and watch the fun and learn from others. And plan to be an active participant next week.
Active level.
Our chats have been labeled the fastest chat in the west because we generally are active only 30 minutes a week from 8:00-8:30pm CT. However, if there is lots of participation, the moderators can stay active until 9:00 or you can keep on chatting without us.

- Create an account in Twitter. It’s preferable to have a Twitter name that’s identifies you. For example, mine is @sharongullett. I recommend not using the name of your library as a Twitter name because who knows you may be in a new school next year. And since Twitter is a social community, hiding your identify is not necessary.
- At the time of the chat or any time, go to http://twitter.com Then in the search box at the top right, type in #txlchat and search. You will be lead to the posts of only #txlchat.
- Click on the "Latest" button toward the top of the screen and scroll down to read all the information being tweeted by #txlcht members.
- When you have something to add to our conversation, click on the Tweet button at the bottom of the list of icons on the left side of the screen. A small screen will pop up and you can type your message. The only thing you have to remember (and sometimes it’s hard to remember) is to make sure "#txlchat" appears somewhere in your message or at the end of your message. Then when you send your tweet, your tweet will appear in the #txlchat list.
- Don’t worry about spelling or correct grammar because we all make mistakes when we are typing fast. Abbreviations are fine. If someone needs more information they’ll ask. The chat will go by so fast that you probably won’t have time to make notes, be we have an answer to that problem. The entire chat will be archived and the link will be posted on Wednesdays at http://txlchat.weebly.com/archives-2019-2020.html
